NEWS: Arles Photography Festival 2010
France’s celebrated Rencontres d’Arles, perhaps the most important annual photographic event in the world has played host to many of the most significant figures in photography.
Magnum photographer Ernst Haas is widely acknowledged to be the first to harness the possibilities offered by colour transparency films.“A picture” he said “is the expression of an impression. If the beautiful were not in us, how would we ever recognise it?”

Ernst Haas est indiscutablement un des photographes les plus connus du xxe siècle. Mais, paradoxalement, un côté de sa personnalité est resté dans l’ombre. Son nom est le plus souvent associé à une photographie en couleur très vivante, dont la presse illustrée a été friande pendant des décennies. Cette photographie, qui a été publiée dans les magazines les plus influents d’Europe et d’Amérique, a aussi alimenté un flux constant de publications sous forme de livres, lesquels ont eux aussi connu un grand succès.
